Flu Vacination
Client:
NHS
Type:
Child Explainer
Bookshelf Studio’s were asked by the NHS to create an animation that explains the importance of flu vaccinations to primary school pupils. We were then brought in to bring Bookshelf’s vision to life.
Bookshelf had already laid out a simple storyboard, so the first challenge was to design the characters and overall feel and ‘look’ of the animation. One of the more memorable design principles was not to hold back on the snot, being for children it was felt the more snot the merrier. Bookshelf also wanted the flu germ to look genuinely monstrous and terrifying.
The next challenges were to rig (create digital skeletons) the characters in ways that made animation efficient. Along with drawing the sets and interiors of the body. One of the biggest challenges at the animation stage was to recreate the Floss dance, an online craze with children at that time.
This ambitious animation was completed on time and within budget. Bookshelf and the client were thrilled with the results.
